Design and Technology
At Key Stage 3 & 4, students will have the opportunity to embark upon Art & Design. During this subject we seek to build a culture amongst the students that will generate an intellectual curiosity and creativity.
Students will have the opportunity to research a range of artists and produce work in the style of. They will need to experiment with techniques and designing skills enabling them to achieve the best possible outcome.
Within our subject area, we feel every child has the ability to achieve and explore their creativity skills.
The course at Key stage 4 involves a portfolio of coursework worth 60% and an exam worth 40%
Design Technology Key Stage 3
Students will be given the opportunity to study Design Technology at Key Stage 3. Students work through all of the areas associated with Design Technology, building on their creative thinking skills and experimenting in different disciplines. These include: graphics, textiles, resistant materials and food technology.
The students will be required to produce a small portfolio on all of the areas, including: product analysis, a design specification, creating design ideas, developing ideas, manufacturing an idea and, finally, evaluating. Although we do not currently envisage studying Product Design at KS4, studying design technology at KS3 assists students to have a full experience and enhance their knowledge of using techniques which can be applied to the Art & Design course.
